Here are some rather disturbing before and after pictures of the damage to our house in St. Bernard Parish. Most of the before pictures were taken right before the hurricane just so we would have a record of what we owned.. the others were from last Halloween.
FRONT YARD The front yard was just... beh.. everything was coated in mud, back yard benches are hanging from the fence, the door was kicked in by army people to check for dead bodies, mud was piled up on the sidewalks, the garage door got beat up pretty bad, and the gutter is about to fall off... oh, but the palm is doing fine.. ^^; I think we were all in shock about seeing our house in that condition... the green spray paint is where the army people checked our house so that everyone knew there were no bodies inside, the doorstep was covered in mud as was our mailbox. That just shows you exactly how high the water got in our area... which was above the roof but still.
KITCHEN 2nd Trip We uhh.. pretty much stayed far far away from the kitchen.. the smell was so rank in there and it was hard to get to. Our giant green sofa was blocking the way. On the second trip to the house, David and Todd managed to get some better kitchen pictures. The cabinets are all hanging down and it's just a really big mess.
BATHROOM 2nd Trip My bathroom... didn't bother going in there but took a few snap shots anyway. The outer door is completely off the hinges and I don't even want to think about the bathtub in there... It looks like the ceiling is draping over the mirror and the light fixtures have fallen down into the sink.
LIVINGROOM
2nd Trip This is where all of my anime and video games were stored, if you look closely you can pick out a few in the rubble. Crap was piled up everywhere, you couldn't see the actual floor tiles even if you tried. The fan isn't doing so well and the floor was covered in debris.. the ceiling completely fell down, and our television isn't looking so hot either.
MY BEDROOM
I took a good many pictures in here... the before and after pictures, they look like a different room. I never imagined anything could make it look this messy.. I mean.. I wasn't the best of housekeepers but still... Anyways, the first picture is from where we had to take a maul and bust in the window so we could get in from that side of the room since the door fell in. Mostly it's just my moldy belongings and clothes still hanging in the closet. David peeked in once while I was taking a picture from the hallway. In the second picture on the bottom row of pictures you can see my moniter and the stuffed moose that was ontop of it.. the last picture has one of my school text books and although you can't tell, one of David's DnD books.
'JUNK' ROOM This was just where we kept some extra stuff that wouldn't fit anywhere else... A lot of my stuffed animals were in here as well as spare computer parts, yearbooks, novels, and Christmas decorations.
TODD'S BEDROOM By the time I got to Todd's bedroom... I wasn't much in the mood to take pictures but... here's his door with the paint peeling off.. he took more pictures that I may get to add later.
GARAGE/SIDES OF HOUSE
2nd Trip We really couldn't get into the garage since both doors were blocked, as you can see the refrigerator has fallen down and is blocking the outside door, and since we couldn't get into the kitchen well... Somone's porch swing was found almost on our roof... we asked all of the neighbors around and no one knew who it belonged to. Todd's new hammock... gone.. but we got someone's basket ball goal in our yard.
BACK YARD
The shed completly got knocked off of its slab and moved into the side of the porch.. and the furniture got pushed inside... while the original contents mostly stayed on the slab... Oh.. and there was a dead fish on the slab as well... Tree in the window with someone's kiddy pool, the wind chime is still tinkling away... fence down... Oh, and the palm in the backyard is fine as well.
MORE BAD STUFF The floor was so coated in slimy sludge it was very hard to walk around.. We managed to save very little... a drinking chess set that Mark gave us last Christmas, a few pieces of jewelry and my two animation cels... that are costing a fortune to get restored. The fire hydrant was all rusty.. up and down the street were just... eh.. and a strange thing.. some kid's toy was dangling from our neighbor's house.
